Friday, October 22, 2021-Episode 393-David Brooks of Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site in Fort Hunter, N.Y., explains how Erie Canal boats were able to cross the fast-flowing Schoharie Creek.

Dana Cudmore is the author of Underground Empires: Two Centuries of Exploration, Adventure and Enterprise in New York’s Cave Country.  Cudmore focuses on caves of Schoharie and Albany counties, including the Howe Caverns tourist attraction.

Friday, September 17, 2021- Episode 388-Katie Turner Getty discusses the prison ships that England used to hold prisoners of war during the American Revolution.  Turner Getty, a Boston lawyer and independent historian, spoke this summer on this topic at a conference sponsored by the Fort Plain NY Museum. She writes articles that appear in the Journal of the American Revolution.

Joyce Stah, on the history of RISE, WMHT's radio information service for the blind and print disabled in New York's Capital Region and Hudson Valley. RISE volunteers read articles from newspapers, periodicals and books to audiences who would otherwise be unable to access such information.  RISE carries each episode of The Historians Podcast.

Friday, August 27, 2021-Episode 385- Tom Flynn of the Center for Inquiry tells about Central New York’s Freethought Trail, including the Dresden, N.Y. birthplace of the 19^th century’s best known agnostic speaker, Robert Green Ingersoll.  More information on the Trail is here: https://freethought-trail.org  The Center for Inquiry reported Tom Flynn’s death on August 23.  He was 66.  His interview for Historians Podcast took place July 7.

Friday, August 20, 2021-Episode 384- Leader Herald columnist Peter Betz has documented how Johnstown celebrated the Fourth of July 200 years ago with cannon shots, a parade and celebration at a local hotel.  Revolutionary War veterans were still alive for these festivities.  Betz also has details on Johnstown native Enos Throop who served as governor of New York from 1829 to 1832.

Episode 383- Kimberly Hess discusses “A Lesser Mortal: The Unexpected Life of Sarah Cochran.”  Cochran lived in Pennsylvania and headed companies that processed coal and coke.  A distant ancestor of Hess, Cochran advocated for women’s suffrage and was a philanthropist.

Episode 382- Deirdre Sinnott is author of The Third Mrs. Galway, a historical novel on race relations in the 1830s focusing on Utica, New York.

Friday, July 30, 2021-Episode 381-Town historian Todd Langworthy has information on how Lily Dale in the Town of Pomfret in western New York became a center for spiritualism.  Pomfret also was the place where the Women’s Christian Temperance Union began and where the first farmers’ Grange was founded.

Friday, June 18, 2021-Episode 375- Mark Sullivan discusses his historical novel, The Last Green Valley that chronicles how members of a German family living in Ukraine were able to escape clashing armies in World War II and find a new life in America.

Episode Episode 374-Linda Wisniewski is author of Where the Stork Flies, a time travel novel about a Pennsylvania librarian whose search for her best life pushes away her family until her 19th century ancestor and the medieval Polish Queen Jadwiga teach her the meaning of unconditional love. There are several scenes in Linda’s home town of Amsterdam, New York, as well as scenes in Poland in 1825.
